My Music

MAGNIFICAT (2023)

Magnificat, or Mary’s Song of Praise, comes from Luke 1:46–55, when Mary, mother of Jesus, rejoices upon visiting Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist, following the angel Gabriel’s announcement that she will bear the Son of God.

The music captures the range of emotions Mary must have felt—triumphant joy, reverence, contemplation, energy, humility, mercy, hope, and festivity. Each of the seven movements reflects one of these emotional states, guiding the listener through Mary’s inner journey. At times playful and energetic, at others reflective and compassionate, the work remains grounded in Mary’s jubilant and comforting song of praise.

Composed for the 900th anniversary of Lund Cathedral in 2023, it is performed by the Boys’ Choir of Lund Cathedral and the Girls’ Choir Korinterna under the direction of Robert Bennesh and Susannah Carlsson.

REQUIEM (2014)

Composed in 2014 for my own choir, Husie Church Choir, and the soprano soloist Suzanne Flink, my Requiem is a luminous and comforting work rather than a dark and somber one.

Written in seven movements for SATB choir, soloist, harp, and string quintet, the piece gives the traditional Latin text a new and radiant musical setting that blends inspiration from Bach to contemporary sounds. The work has been performed in Malta, Åland, Poland, Finland, and Jämtland.

7EVEN LAST WORDS (2016)

This choral work sets the last words of Jesus on the cross for SA choir and string quartet. Each movement reflects a different aspect of His final moments: forgiveness, salvation, human relationships, abandonment, physical distress, triumph, and reunion with the Father.

The music closely follows the text, highlighting the emotional and spiritual depth of each phrase. Moments of tenderness, longing, and ultimate triumph are expressed through interplay between voices and strings. The piece invites reflection on suffering, compassion, and the promise of redemption.

ATT VÅGA VARA (2017)

“Dare to Be – In the Presence of Our Five Senses” is a unique musical experience for SATB choir, soloist, oboe, and string quintet, with text by Karin Thulemark. The work explores the five senses – sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste – inviting the audience to engage fully in the moment.

Through music, text, singing, and movement, listeners are guided on a journey of sensory awareness and presence. The piece encourages calm, reflection, and a holistic experience where each participant’s presence becomes part of the whole. Performers describe it as uplifting, healing, and deeply moving, inspiring love, joy, and community.
